I'm not sure what happened this week, but I'm now officially signed up for five simultaneous art journal projects...all while I am working full time and studying my Masters full time! Am I a glutton for punishment or what!?!
I guess it started when Jan told me about the Australian Artist Notebook project, which is a take on the Brooklyn Art House Co-op Sketchbook Project, only on a smaller scale and using better quality sketchbooks. I thought to myself. I can handle two projects at the same time can't I?
Then Tim told me about the 1001 Journals project and the Moly_X sketchbook exchange.
The 1001 Journals project doesn't have as much pressure as the Sketchbook Project because you add to a book and then pass it on, rather than being wholly responsible for it. I've just started a book if anyone is keen to join me! http://1001journals.com/journals/4651
The Moly_X project is similar in that you fill in a few pages and then pass the book on to the other people in the group. They are using Moleskine accordian pocket sketchbooks, which I haven't used before but which look like a lot of fun. I think I may have just volunteered to be a project leader for Moly_X!
While doing a bit of flicking around the interwebz I also came across the Notebook Project. Again, this doesn't have all the pressure of the individual projects because you just add something and then pass it on. You can write, draw, paint, collage, whatever you like. This project is about sharing a piece of wisdom with your fellow sistas. :o)
So including the Sketchbook Project, that makes five projects I have to finish by the end of the year...oh, right, and my Masters. Wish me luck!

You almost had me signing up for another couple of projects - particularly the fibre arts one....how could I resist : ) Until I remembered that I've done the math, and at my current productivity I'm not even going to fill my art house sketchbook let alone all the other fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteOh, i totally understand why you signed up for all of those. Each has its own appeal - i especially like the idea of contributing and passing on - it seems nice to be part of something collective, especially to me as i my primary creative mode is as a fiction writer which is a very solitary occupation.
ReplyDeleteHi Annabel and Em, can I sign you up for just one page in my 1001 Journals project book? Just one little page? Pretty please? :D
ReplyDeleteJust follow the link in the post above and put your name down.
(P.S. Annabel, words are most definitely art. I have some great examples of word art in a book at home, I'll try to remember to scan some in).
Hey Jess...I think its great you've signed up to these projects...I think I will stick with just two this year but I'm really looking forward to following your progress.
ReplyDeleteLoving the new look of the blog by the way xxxxx
