Here are the results from round two of testing the Sketchbook Project paper. I've drawn a series of gradients on both sides of the paper so you can see how each one does or doesn't show through. (Show through is on the right).
Out of the pencils, the Inktense ones were the only ones to start to show through the page if you used a lot of water on them. The paper also copes fairly well with wet on dry watercolor, but does crinkle if you attempt to do wet on wet.
If you have any particular mediums you would like me to test, please let me know and I'll do my best.

ReplyDeleteHi Beverly, glad to be of assistance!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome and so useful!!! Could you test acrylic and metallic marker?!
ReplyDeleteHi Taryn,
ReplyDeleteI've just tested some metallic pens and some gesso (which is pretty much acrylic paint)here http://blog.brownpaperbunny.com/2011/05/sketchbook-project-paper-test.html But I will also be doing some more acrylic, and even some melted wax / crayon tests too! Stay tuned. :)
Please test some markers! I used Pitt Artist Pens last year, Brush Tip and Big Brush tip. This year I've got four sets of Tombow Dual Tip Brush Pens each of which has a colorless blender, I'm very excited that the blender gives soft edges, so please test the blender on the edges of Tombow swatches.
ReplyDeleteAlso I used Sakura Pigma Micron pens on a lot of pages.
I bought Schminke Tro-Col Bronze dry gouache in Silver and Rich Pale Gold, this is metallic gouache that should handle like watercolor. I also have a 24k Gold dot that's real gold ground and mixed with a watercolor binder, it handles like metallic gouache and is real gold.
Other possibilities for metallic or glitter effects could include glitter gel pens or metallic gel pens and Daniel Smith Luminescent watercolors.
Thanks Robert, I've tested a range of markers and metallic pens on one of my other Sketchbook Project tests. Check out: http://blog.brownpaperbunny.com/2011/05/sketchbook-project-paper-tests.html
