About

My name is Jessica Mack and I'm an artist / illustrator currently living in Canberra, Australia.

The Brown Paper Bunny blog is a place to create, try new things and not be afraid (or embarrassed) by the end result. A place to participate in projects and connect with all the wonderfully creative people on the interwebs. So pick up a pencil, get paint on your hands, and start maken art!

My Journey
I'd always dreamed of being able to draw, but I was always too scared to try and I really didn't know how to start. To me 'being able to draw' meant realistic pencil drawings of people, buildings, animals, landscapes, that's what I wanted to be able to do.

On New Year's Eve 2009 (spent in New York City with my lovely boyfriend) I decided that I'd had enough of dreaming and I set myself some resolutions. One of which was to take an art class.

As soon as we got home to Australia in January 2010 I enrolled in a night class at the Australian National University. 'Creative Drawing'. For the first two weeks I hated it, nothing but still life drawings of hard-to-draw glass vases. But slowly over the course of a semester I began to have fun. I started to loosen up and realise that I could draw whatever I wanted. I still admire realistic pencil drawings, and some of my favorite work consists of planning sketches by Degas and Monet, but I'm beginning to find my style. And it is naive, or as I like to call it 'four-year-old art'. It makes me happy.

This blog is my journey into the art world, from nothing, to total art bliss. Thank you for joining me. It's never too late to try something new!

  1. Great to visit the blog of another artist-is it just me or are we a rare breed? I seem to find craft blogs galore-cartoonists/artists less so.
    Thanks!
